Job description

The System Administrator role is responsible for creating and maintaining an efficient, scalable and secure network environment in the WLA offices and servers, assuring all end-users are set up with the proper equipment, connections, and software in order to perform their jobs successfully, acting as the key liaison between employees and management to optimize company’s systems for maximum performance.

The System Administrator’s duties include:

  • Hardware and software setup for new and existing employees
  • Supporting employees with their ongoing network and workplace issues
  • Updating server tools (such as PHPMyAdmin, MySQL, NodeJs, WP-cli, SSL Certs on Ubuntu Server) per the needs of the development team
  • Local Network setup and maintenance
  • Development Server Support (currently on cloud-based Digital Ocean environment)
  • Working with MySQL database settings when required
  • Assisting developers in moving completed WordPress projects from WLA development servers to client hosting environments
  • Installing and updating software packages on the servers
  • Workflow automatization (scripts, backuping, systems integration)

Relevant experience and abilities

  • Intermediate English (written and spoken)
  • UNIX knowledge (setup, maintenance, scripting, work with iptables, rsync, lshell)
  • LAMP expertise (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP configuration and setup)
  • Understanding of Network Protocols (FTP, SFTP, HTTP, HTTPS, SSH). Additional knowledge of alternative technologies would be a plus (Nginx, IIS or other web servers)
  • Regular OS Windows Administration skills
  • Excellent Network Administration skills: configuration and setup of LAN devices (routers, switches and wifi-points etc), knowledge of Mikrotik and Apple network solutions is a plus
  • Bash or another script language (python, perl & etc).
  • Host administration, working with cPanel

Bonus if you have

  • WordPress administration or development knowledge
  • Knowledge of PHP, SQL and frontend development skills
  • English proficiency
  • MacOS experience
  • Salesforce.com experience

How does the hiring process work?

Here’s what our process looks like once we get started:

Screening over a call

We start with a quick and friendly phone call so we can learn a little more about you and your fit for the role. At the same time, you can ask questions to us.

First interview

We’ll organise an interview (usually with the HR manager and another team member) to talk more about your skills and experience and how they relate to what we look for.

Practical test

If the interview goes well, some roles might require you to complete a practical task (like a coding test, or a hypothetical scenario) so we can see you in action.

Second Interview

We’ll organise a second interview to discuss your practical test and explore any new questions that might have. You could also be meeting other team members at this stage.

Offer

If you’re the best person for the role and we’re happy with everything so far, we will extend an offer to you for joining our team in your new role.
