About 6S Digital

6S Digital started as a marketing agency for law firms but has since expanded into dental, fitness, and home services. Under the new CEO, Dennis Dumas, who brings extensive marketing experience from various industries, the agency now has big goals for the future.

Working with a distributed team from their Wyoming headquarters, 6S Digital currently generates over $1 million in yearly revenue. Following a business restructuring, they’re now executing a plan to get to $6-7 million revenue level within 24 months.

6S Digital is a full-service digital marketing agency, with offerings like content and affiliate marketing, SEO, web design & development, and website maintenance. Looking ahead, the agency plans to take on bigger legal clients, while also diversifying its portfolio through sizable dental companies in the Midwest.

The complications of an in-house team

For 6S Digital, managing website development became difficult as their business grew. They had always built websites in-house, but started struggling when project volumes went up and down unexpectedly.

“Challenges typically arise in workload and headcount,” explains Dennis. “If we bring on too big of a number of website builds or web hosting, maintenance, and security type tickets coming in, it becomes difficult to manage with fixed resources.”

Many growing agencies face this same problem: how to handle varying client demands without overstaffing or understaffing? For 6S Digital, their in-house model made it hard to respond quickly to new opportunities or scale back during slower periods.

6S Digital’s “Conundrum”

Before working with White Label Agency, 6S Digital struggled to find a good solution for improving scalability. Each option had its downsides.
“If you’re going to go and get a freelancer for an individual project, you’re going to pay a big premium for that individual project, therefore eating into margins,” Dennis said. “The only other way to handle that would be to hire somebody, but you don’t want to go out and be hiring people for jobs that you’re not going to give them long term.”

This created what Dennis calls “a conundrum” that made planning difficult: “Do I need to hire a permanent employee because I have enough ongoing work to justify it, or is this just a temporary busy period where paying a premium for a freelancer makes more sense?”

Without a middle option between permanent hires and expensive freelancers, the agency needed a more flexible solution. And White Label Agency offered exactly that.

How WLA became part of 6S Digital’s workflow

The partnership with White Label Agency gave 6S Digital what they were missing: a way to scale their development resources up and down as needed.

In practice, this meant having a dedicated senior developer who became integrated with their team. “Just before this, I was on with Max [developer], who’s assigned from your team, and he’s on our Slack channels, working with us. He’s full-time with us,” Dennis explains.
Unlike typical outsourcing, where work is simply handed off, Max works directly in 6S Digital’s communication channels and collaborates with their team daily. This integration extends beyond the developer to include WLA’s maintenance services through a ticket system.

“I have standing quarterly calls with Juice [account manager]. I have regular access to him and to the team that supports our developer. And I have open access to our collaboration board for service tickets,” Dennis notes. Having a dedicated account manager and ticketing system allows 6S Digital to handle maintenance requests, security updates, and website changes efficiently.

“It is really more of a partnership and collaboration than an external service. That part is incredibly important for us because we are a small to mid-size agency,” Dennis emphasizes. “When we tell our customers that we lean into more in-house management and less outsourcing, using White Label Agency keeps that true.”

6S Digital & WLA partnership

“We really want to start leveraging White Label Agency quite a bit more. We have a pretty big package of services with WLA that I don’t think we’re leveraging to the fullest extent. With our growth expectations, getting more involved with White Label Agency is a big part of how we’re going to do that.”

Agile partnership and plans for expansion

Working with White Label Agency has changed how 6S Digital handles resources and budget planning.

“Being able to get a senior developer costs about $5,000 a month, but it’s $5,000 a month as we need it, rather than an employee on our payroll paying all the different taxes and things that come with that,” Dennis explains. “If we need to drop down a tier, we can go to what I believe is $3,900 a month for a developer one level down, and utilize that for the time we need it.”

This arrangement helps them respond to new business opportunities quickly. As Dennis points out, if they get a call about a project needing more development support, they no longer need to hesitate, as they can immediately get support from WLA.

The partnership has brought unexpected benefits too. “White Label Agency has actually referred clients to us,” Dennis shares. “We’ve built new business relationships through clients of yours who needed services you don’t offer.”

Going forward, 6S Digital plans to expand their use of WLA services to support their ambitious growth plans. Dennis says they want to continue servicing legal clients, but also plan to expand into bigger legal customers and diversify into some sizable dental companies in the Midwest. “This exciting relationship with WLA will allow us to expand quickly,” he noted. Dennis sees White Label Agency playing a central role in their growth strategy.
